Teacups
I I began painting tea cups for my mom who loved a good cup of tea. I was interested in portraying the dainty, feminine cups in a robust way, as portrayals of a variety of human sitters. I imagine that each differently patterned and colored cup is a portrait of a woman dressed in a highly individual outfit. The idea of the Teacup as vessel speaks to the image of women as vessel; carriers and holders of life itself.
The piece is still in process. I aim to keep finding interesting cups and to install them someday on a huge wall giving this innocuous and fragile object a new nobility and monumentally.
Each painting is 12" x 12" Oil on Board
